The Elizabethan stage was quite bare and stage decorations were used sparingly. In all of Shakespeare's plays, the scene is set by the words of the actors, rather than being dependent on stage decorations.

In act one, scene two, Oberon tells us "I am invisible" (II i 186), and so he is, without needing any special effects. Other places characters describe their surroundings, telling us that they are in the woods or at Theseus palace.
